Johannesburg - Consumer goods group Tiger Brands (TBS) has named Peter Matlare as Chief Executive Officer following the early retirement of Nick Dennis.

Matlare's appointment is effective from 1 April 2008.

Matlare is currently chief strategy and business development officer of Vodacom, having previously held the position of group chief executive of SABC from 2001 to 2006.

Lex van Vught, non-executive chairperson of Tiger Brands, said the Board had undertaken a thorough and comprehensive search during which process both internal and external candidates were considered.

"All of the candidates and particularly the internal candidates were of the highest calibre and it was a difficult and close decision. The interest in the position was reflective of the high esteem in which the company is held,

both internally and externally," he said.

"It was a rigorous process and we are extremely pleased to have secured the services of Peter. We believe he will bring a diverse set of skills and leadership abilities to Tiger Brands."

Van Vught said Matlare's appointment was motivated to the board by a committee of senior independent directors of Tiger Brands. "Peter impressed us with his insights and strong operational and management experience of large corporations. We as a Board believe he will ably steer Tiger Brands into the

future."

"Tiger Brands has a wonderful stable of products and brands and a dedicated and highly respected team of employees. It is a privilege to succeed Nick Dennis as CEO of Tiger Brands. I'm looking forward to meeting the challenges

and opportunities of the future together with the management team and people of Tiger Brands," Matlare said.
