Ref: mis015/08 February 2008 Q: We have an inquiry about the following issue:
QUR'AAN KHAANI: In Malawi,for a very long time people have a program known as qur'aan khaani whereby they get together after a person passes away. Many people have this program on the same day whilst others have it 3 days later.
Just recently we (the tabligh jamaat n deobandi) have built our own masjid and our ulama's have said that it is not right to have these programs and that it is bid'at (innovation). Therefore we have not kept these qur'aan khani's ever since. But the families of some of the deceased, who attend salaah at our masjid hold these qur'aan khaani's at other masjids (barelwi masjids)
and many people go to attend such programs too.
Our executive committeewants clarificationthat if we keep just a Yaseen khatam, then those few people who opt to go there should not go there. And there are even some who do not go to the berelwi masjid but still feel offended on why it is not being kept at our masjid.
Please kindly elaborate and clarify on this issue.Is it wrong to keep yaaseen khattam???? A: Isaal-e-thawaab (conveying of rewards) is something that is not only established in the Shariah but is also encouraged. However, fixing a particular day or arranging a specific gathering for this purpose is not established. Hence, whereas you should not arrange any specific gathering for this purpose, you could encourage the congregation to make Isaal-e-thawaab individually at any time convenient to them.
