A Month of Blessings and Happiness

BABAR R CHAUDHRY

Arrahman-Arraheem.com

Rabi-ul-Awwal is a month of blessings, respect and happiness for us all as the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) was born in this month.

At the time of the birth of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) mankind was ignorant and confused about their existence and purpose of life. They were desperately searching for solutions and answers to their social, moral and family problems and looking for stability and the right path in life – a life free from tensions, stress and difficulties. And above all, they were seeking to understand and know their Creator. And because of this ignorance had started worshipping idols (physical and spiritual), and made their own religions and ways of living. In all this confusion the Almighty Allah (swt) responded to mankind’s restlessness and anxiety by sending Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) as Rehmatulil-alameen (Mercy for the entire mankind) and Siraj-e-Muneer (Bright Light) to guide mankind away from darkness, ignorance, idol worship and Shirk (association of others with the Almighty). The Prophet (pbuh) introduced the Creator and the Sustainer of the universe; answered the questions; provided solutions to problems of daily life; and showed the right path – the Deen (judgment, decision) in order to get His mercy and blessings. This was a great favour of the Almighty on the entire mankind, which we must all remain thankful. In Surah Aal-Imran 3 Ayat 164 of the Quran, Allah (swt) mentions the responsibility of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) as: ‘Certainly Allah conferred a great favour upon the believers that He raised among them a Rasool (Messenger) from among themselves, reciting to them His Revelations and purifying them, and teaching them the Book and the wisdom, although before that they were surely in manifest error’.

The Almighty send down many Prophets for the guidance of mankind to leave in Peace and Brotherhood. In a Hadith (saying) the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said, ‘My example and the example of all those Prophets who have passed before me (Abraham, Moses, Jesus etc) is like someone constructs a very beautiful palace but leaves place for a brick in one corner. People who visit this palace wonder why this brick was not placed’. The Prophet (pbuh) said, ‘I am that last brick’. Meaning that the Deen (judgment, decision) was completed on the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) and he was Khatamun-Nabiyeen (last of the Prophets). Almighty Allah’s Judgment, Decision (Deen) is available to us in the form of His Book, the Holy Quran.

When we talk about blessings we normally associate it to being well-off and living a good quality of life, our children growing up well, getting a good job, getting promotions etc. But if we take Almighty Allah, His Messenger and His teachings as a blessing of this world, then we can experience a lot of goodness in our lives which includes virtue, bounties, mercy, rewards, abundance, stability in relationships, higher character and personality, purity, confidence, prosperity in business, contentment and peace of mind. Not only this, but every believing man and woman can get the companionship of the Prophet (pbuh) as the Quran describes his life and character as the ‘Best-Model’ for all those who believe in the Almighty and the Hereafter and those who engage in His remembrance (33:21). One of the Hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) says, ‘Surely I have been sent as a messenger so as to achieve a high quality of conduct and character’.

The two very clear benefits promised by Almighty Allah for those who are true believers are removal of ills and improving of the condition (physical, financial, emotional etc), as mentioned in Surah Muhammad 47 Ayat 2: ‘And those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and believe in the Revelation sent down to Muhammad - for it is the Truth from their Lord,- He will remove from them their ills and improve their condition’. So if we want to experience Peace (Islam) in our lives, in our homes and in our society then we have to follow the character which was demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and shall remain an example for the mankind for all times to come which includes tolerance, patience, forgiveness, mercy, love, respect for others while remaining steadfast in actions and deeds.

No education can be fruitful until it is balanced. Our psyche is balanced when we display good conduct and character. So in this holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, let us pledge we shall try to be better and balanced individuals and human beings. That we shall understand the instructions of the Almighty Allah as revealed to us through His Book and His Messenger in order to remove the darknesses which we may carry inside us and enlighten our lives, our families, our homes and the society around us so that we can call prosper and life in Peace and Universal Brotherhood. The month of Rabi-ul-Awwal gives us another opportunity to be happy and rejoice at the Blessing which our Creator has bestowed on us. #
