Swedish retailer takes hit after cartoon republications
Swedish-Danish dairy giant Arla Foods said its sales in the Middle East have fallen to half of of projected levels following February's re-publication in Danish media of a set of cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed, reported Thomson Financial. Astrid Gade Nielsen, the company's group head of communications, said Arla would face a sales decline of 1.3 billion Danish crowns, out of projected global sales of around 50 billion crowns, in 2008, if the trend continues. She added, however, that the trend might turn, and that the effect on the year's result is thus impossible to tell.
