American fighter jets launch air strikes in Somalia

Somali resistant groups confirmed that US forces had launched air strikes against a remote area in Somalia following a meeting held by insurgents. There were no injuries reported.

Two insurgents reported to the media that they heard fighter jets hovering over the area at night after which they heard 10 bombs in the Audam rural area, where the two insurgents met with civilians, adding that the raids had been launched by the United States of America.

The US on the other hand has denied having launched any strikes against a house in Somalia. The spokesperson for the US Central Command in Tampa, Florida, said that the news about the US launching air strikes against a house in the remote area of Audam in Somalia was incorrect.

Meanwhile, a few days ago American fighter jets attacked a house in Tos Murib killing two of the top leaders of the Mujahideen Youth Movement, one of whom was Aden Ayro the military commander of the movement. Following this incident, the Alliance for the Liberation of Somalia threatened to boycott the expected peace talks with the Ethiopian-supported transitional government of Somalia, while the Somali insurgents threatened on Friday to avenge the killing of a number of their leaders. The ex chairman of Islamic Courts, Tahir Auwes, who is possibly residing in Eritrea, denounced the American strikes that killed the military commander of the Mujahideen Youth Movement. He said the “strikes illustrated that the American government is not honest in its call for negotiations and in fact it is obstructing the Somali reconciliation efforts.” He further explained that talks would not continue “while the killing is continuing”, adding that the expected talks in Djibouti would not commence.
