The Daily News Kgaleme Motlanthes's comment on the slow action of the police with regard to the countrywide xenophobic attacks is also a reflection of the slow action of the police in curbing the high crime rate in our country. Many important issues of policing and crime needs to be addressed in South Africa. Unlike the government's "crime not out of control" attitude perhaps Mothlante will heighten the gravity of crime in parliament and amongst cabinet members. Mothlante's position on crime could make a great impact in the deployment of more police officers in understaffed police stations countrywide. However, the police officers and law enforcement members who may be deployed to address the crisis must be fully qualified and well-trained for the job. Yusuf
