The Daily News The world is experiencing extreme conditions of soaring food prices, food shortages and high inflation. South Africans, who are part of the global village, are also severely affected by this phenomenon. Like our counterparts, we need to brace ourselves for an extremely unstable economy. We need to learn to curb our spending for only our very basic needs. It's time to abandon the "want" mentality and institute the concept of "need" only. It is worrying and frightening that the repossession of homes and cars has increased dramatically. Adding to the crisis are increased job losses and a downslide in business confidence and performance. The man in the street is in turmoil and is finding it difficult to make ends meet.
