I refer to your article “KZN business hit hard by crime The Daily News In reference to your article "KZN business hit hard by crime," once again the issues of crime, viz., hijackings, house break ins, robberies, etc. are highlighted with no real positive solutions. Criminals are having a field day targeting homes and businesses due to several reasons such as slow and inadequate policing, non visible policing, light sentencing of criminals, etc. Despite the various police forums and units formed to combat crime, crime in South Africa is at an all-time high. Also, statistically speaking, South Africa is amongst the top ten countries with the highest murder rates. Criminals don't value human life and murder people for either a virtually inexpensive item or nothing at all. Our government seems to be in denial in acknowledging the gravity of the crime situation. We will only see results only when our government gets really serious about combating crime. Wasim Durban
