Aid for the African continent is something of a constant call The Daily News Aid for the African continent is something of a constant call. Year after year a more desperate plea is made with epidemics, famine, food shortages and incessant conflicts within countries. As far as I can recall the African continent has had more then its share of misery and suffering. Apart from natural disasters, which are a worldwide phenomenon, most of Africa has been dependent on international aid in terms of humanitarian aid. Tragically the situation seems to be getting worse each time. Your report, “Calls for aid as millions of Africans face famine” once again confirms the plight of Africa with more than 14.5 million people in five East African countries requiring urgent and immediate aid. Indeed a magnitude of this level of suffering is mind-boggling. It is time the stronger African states consolidate their efforts and assist their fellow neighbours in a better and stronger position socially, economically and politically. Perhaps stability is the key to many of the ills and misfortunes of many of these countries. Abdullah
