ADOPT A SCHOOL

As Muslims, we have a sacred responsibility to our fellow countrymen, a responsibility to improve the plight of the down-trodden and historically oppressed people of our country. We are morally obliged to extend our helping hand to communities living in our very neighbourhood. The Holy Prophet (sallallahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: "The creation (humanity) is (ultimately) the family of Allah, hence the most beloved creation in the sight of Allah are those that do good to His family" As members of the human race, we need to extend our helping hand to help redress the imbalance between first world and third world societies in our regions.

We have to initiate a social empowerment program that will serve as a catalyst for Da'wah. Lest we leave an unpardonable legacy for generations to come, our limited resources and manpower, calls for a pragmatic and practical program that may be sustainable in the long term. We humbly suggest an uniformed project called Adopt-a-School.

The "adoption" would entail:

¨ Donation of textbooks, furniture and apparatus

¨ Establishment of library with various media

¨ Extra-tuition given by members of the Muslim teacher community

¨ Teacher Development Program - management and administration skills to be imparted

¨ Entrepreneur Opportunities (for Muslims)

¨ Operation Qurbani

¨ Operation Winter - clothes, blankets, etc.

¨ Operating soup-kitchen

¨ Other relief operations in disaster situations; floods, etc
