Wasiyyat (Bequest) of Shaykh Maseehullah Khan Saheb

On the 19th Rabiul Aakhir, 1413, corresponding to the 17th October 1992, a Saturday, this humble servant presented himself to Maulana Maseehullah Saheb. He indicated for me to bring my ear closer.

He began saying: "I do not even have the will to speak (move my tongue), my weakness is so great. I am having difficulty in speaking, despite this I wish to say something.

A'maal Hasanah (good deeds) in totality should be constantly upheld (done) with Husne-Khulq and Husne-Kalaam. Salaat, Fasting, Sunan, Mustahabbaat should be punctual, keeping in mind your health and your circumstances. Zikr, Tilaawat, according to your ability and means must be maintained, so should mutaala'ah (study and research). This is very important. The 'Shariat wa Tariqat' of Hadhratwala, may Allah enlighten his grave and the Urdu translation of Imaam Ghazaali's Kitab "Tableegh-e-Deen" should be constantly studied. Hadhratwala used to emphasise the studying of this book to great Ulamaa. Also the Tafseer of Hadhratwala's Bayaanul Qur'aan should be studied.

A'maal Sayyi'ah (evil deeds) in its entirety should be abstained, to the extent that Mushtabahaat should be abstained, as is mentioned in Bukhaari Shareef:

Halaal is clear and Haraam is clear between them (Halaal and Haraam) is Mushtabahaat (ambiguity). Refrain from Mushtabahaat.

The attaining of Akhlaaq-e-Hameedah with enthusiasm and cessation or decline of Akhlaaq Sayyi'ah with distaste. The effect of the above will eventually be attaining Husne-Kalaam and Husne-Khulq and it's continuity.

The definition of Husne-Kalaam is that your words are sweet and your voice soft. The definition of Husne-Akhlaaq is Hilm, meaning in our language Burd Baari (tolerance and endurance). If someone says something against your Tab'eeat (constitution), displeasing you, you reply it with Kalaam-e-Husn, with tolerance, as mentioned by Allah Ta'aala:

When you hear Laghw (vain discourse), then refrain therefrom.

Surah al Qasas. Verse 55

Whenever such a thing occurs remain indifferent, let it be, do not sit in such places, do not do things which can be a means of your slander, as mentioned in the Hadeeth.

Protect yourselves from places of slander or ill repute. The Hadeeth does not say protect yourself from slander, but places or methods adopted which could lead to it. Then my Guide, Hadhrat Hakim-ul-Ummat, Mujaddid-e-Millat, Allah Ta'aala enlighten his resting place, used to say: There are two words "Dhiyaan and Dhun" (contemplation/remembrance) and (inclination/diligence).

Dhiyaan is that at all times, standing, sitting, walking, you contemplate Allah Ta'aala and Dhun is that at all times, you are inclined and diligent towards Tazkiyah (self purification). Both these things are unique and admirable. Continue your A'maal on them. Do not fall in to the affairs of others. Stay aloof from the matters of other people. This is against the conduct of the Mashaaikh.

Constant Zikr should be maintained in this manner that the tongue should be in remembrance with every breath and the heart with the tawfeeq of this Zikr and obedience of Allah should be Shaakir (content). Your transactions, buying and selling, should be honest. These words are by the way of Wasiyyat (bequest) though I do not have the strength, with the Fadhl (grace) of Allah Ta'aala, I have made this Wasiyyat (bequest)."

This humble servant then requested, please make du'aa that Allah Ta'aala grant me the Tawfeeq to act completely on all this discourse of yours. To the best of my ability, this servant will Insha Allah continue applying this.

Thereafter Hadhratwala made lots of du'aa.

The next day, after Fajr Salaat, he said: "Remain firm on A'maal-Hasanah, constantly with Husne-Khulq and Husne-Kalaam, soft and sweet words, as Allah Ta'aala has mentioned in the Qur'aan:

Say unto my servants that when they speak, speak well.

Speak with Husne-Kalaam, Husne-Khulq, whenever anything is said against Tab'eeat (constitution), one is offended by it, reply with Husne-Kalaam and Husne-Khulq or remain silent. Allah Ta'aala has mentioned:

And when you hear vain discourse, refrain therefrom.
Surah Qasas, Verse 55

Never can good and evil be equal. Repel evil with that which is good.
Surah Haameem Sajdah. verse 34.

Husne-Khulq is a great and important aspect.

Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam said:

Must I not show you that which is better than the entire night of Ibaadat (worship), and the entire day of Sawm (fasting) for one year?" The Sahaabah radhiyallahu anhum replied: "What is that, O Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam?" He replied: "Husne-Khulq". This is a great thing. Thereafter, Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam said: "Must I not show you that which is better than Husne-Khulq?"

The Sahaabah radhiyallahu anhum thought: "What can be more virtuous than Husne-Khulq?"

He replied: "To have Husne-Khulq with your wives, to be soft with them."

Because differences between spouses is generally common.

And in the same manner, with one's relatives, friends and even enemies, one should have Husne-Khulq.

Conclusion

To be firm with A'maal-e-Hasanah, with Husne-Khulq and Husne-Kalaam, and to refrain from A'maal-e-Sayyi'ah constantly. The tongue should be Zaakir (in remembrance) and the heart should be Shakeer (content).

An inclination towards Tazkiyah-e-Nafs and Islah-e-Nafs and the remembrance of Allah Ta'aala. This is the essence of Tasawwuf. Be continuous in your A'maal of it. This is the saying of my Guide, Hadhrat Hakeemul Ummat Mujaddid Maulana Muhammad Ashraf Ali Saheb Thanvi, Allah Ta'aala enlighten his Qabar.
