Canadian Mosque attacked for the 3rd time PDF Print E-mail

Mississauga, Canada – Mississauga, a Canadian city not far from Toronto in Ontario, Canada is home to the Islamic Society of North America’s (ISNA) Canadian headquarters which house a large Islamic cultural centre, mosque and secondary school in a heavily secured complex.

The centre was officially inaugurated in 2001 and has since been known as the Islamic Centre of Canada (ICC).But, administrators and regular visitors to the ICC are extremely concerned because they have come under attack recently, not once but three times, the most recent being last Sunday.

Reports say that just minutes before Salaah (prayer) began, a concrete slab was hurled through a window and into the mosque where about 100 worshippers were present.

Fortunately no one was injured and many were unaware of what had transpired. There were some eyewitnesses to the incident and they told reporters that they had seen two male teenagers on bicycles ride past and throw something that was apparently a large piece of concrete stone.

Earlier this month, a rock was tossed through the windscreen of a vehicle that belongs to the centre. Reports at that time also claimed that two males on bicycles were responsible.

The mosque director, Dr Khalid, says he is convinced that the incident was not random and that he finds himself constantly having to increase the already tight surveillance.

After the September 11th attacks in the USA, many of Canada’s mosques including the Mississauga one were attacked. At that time, a firebomb was placed within the ICC, Khalid confirmed.
