The chairman of the World Federation for Islamic Scholars, Dr. Yousef Al-Qardhawi criticized recent offensive statements made by the Pope’s secretary, Georg Gänswein, against Islam.
In his statement, Gänswein warned of the “Islamisation of the West”. Qardhawi said that such statements would damage the dialogue between Islam and Western societies. In an interview with Fact International, Dr. Qardhawi said that the Vatican was in the habit of launching attacks against all religions, especially Islam. “The Pope recently attacked Protestants and Orthodox Christians, but not Judaism, which he never has and never will attack”. Qardhawi stressed that the Federation strongly condemned the statements regarding the so-called “Islamisation of the West”. He said that “a man in the Pope’s position should not indulge himself by insulting others”. In response to the offensive statement, the Federation issued an official request for a halt to dialogue with the Vatican until the Pope’s attitude towards Islam changed. Qardhawi said Islam was making a foothold in Western communities quite easily, since it is a religion that rejects violence. “It is for the benefit of all mankind that we cooperate with each other in the face of atheists who are opposed to all religions. Qardhawi called upon the “followers of all religions to put their efforts together to eliminate the waves of immorality that is prevailing to such an extent that even some European churches are now giving their blessings to homosexual marriages”. Qardhawi also urged all Muslims to cooperate and coordinate with each other in defense of Islam against such disgraceful attacks. His advice was “not to pay attention to such insults and accusations made by the Vatican and to continue with their propagation of Islam
