Zuma leads nominations race for ANC presidency ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma comfortably leads the nominations race for the post of ANC president. Political observers say the results of the weekend's ANC nominations for the party's leadership are a strong indication of how the 4 075 voting delegates will cast their secret ballots at the national conference in Polokwane next month. There are 19 days to go before the conference and Zuma has secured nominations in Gauteng, KwaZulu/Natal, Mpumalanga, the Free State and the Northern Cape. The ANC Youth League has also given him their backing. President Thabo Mbeki has so far mustered close to 1 400 votes and the support of four provinces - the Eastern Eastern and Western Cape, North West and Limpopo. ANC spokesperson Tiyani Rihotso says the party will release official figures today once the ANC Women's League announces its nominations. Sabcnews.com
