15,885 buses to transport Haj pilgrims Makkah – Dhul Qaada 18, 1428/ November 28, 2007– A total of 15,885 buses are readied to transport pilgrims during Haj, according to Muhammad Zakariya Joharji, president of the General Motor Syndicate. The syndicate started implementing its operational plan which will continue until the end of Muharram, he said. According to Muhammad Zakariya Joharji, implementation of the plan covers Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah as well as the roads linking these cities and the Holy Sites of Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifa. He said that the syndicate groups several major transport companies, such as Ommul Qura, Al Jazeera, Hafel, Makkah and Arabian. "These companies have modernized their fleet of buses. They have also purchased 718 new buses this year at a total cost of SR 300 million. The syndicate, which is working under the umbrella of the Ministry of Haj, has made available of all the safety and security means to transport the pilgrims in a smooth manner in order to enable them to perform the rituals in ease and comfort," he added.
