Book Reviews

NAME OF BOOK: Aqeedatut Tahaawi

AUTHOR: Moulana Qari Muhammad Tayyib Saheb (RA)

TRANSLATOR: Mufti Afzal Hoosen Elias

PUBLISHER: Zam Zam Publishers

PAGES: 247

Belief is perhaps the most important part of a believer’s life. As Muslims our Aqeedah must be correct, distanced and unadulterated from the Shaitaani thoughts and utterances.

Imaam Tahaawi (RA), a brilliant scholar and Mujtahid of his time produced this short and concise work on the doctrine - Al Aqeeda. In essence the author profoundly and comprehensively discusses the basics of beliefs refuting arguments of other sects that we often read about. The commentary of Qari Tayyib Saheb sheds more light on the text and expands one’s understanding.

Admittedly it’s not a book for the casual reader; it will do as an excellent text book for higher learning. The discourse is specifically supported by Qur’aanic verses and Ahaadith.

NAME OF BOOK: The Qur'aan and You

AUTHOR: Moulana Manzoor Nomani [Rahimahumullah]

TRANSLATOR: Muhammad Asif Kidwi

PUBLISHER: Academy of Islamic Research and Publications

PAGES: 227

Moulana Manzoor Nomani [Rahimahumullah] has written many books on a wide selection of topics and many of these books have been translated into the English language. His books have been widely acknowledged throughout the world.

Under separate headings, the author has attempted to cover a broad range of Quranic teachings. The chapters include the existence of Allah Ta’ala, His Attributes, the Hereafter, moral virtues, submission, etc. The verses of the Qur'aan are quoted in Arabic with their translation and thereafter a brief explanation is given. The commentary of the verses is simplified and not intended as a substitute for a full commentary [Tafseer] of the selected Ayaat.

The author’s style of writing accommodates the Muslim and Non-Muslim reader - to maintain the fact that the Noble Qur'aan is the Divine Scripture sent to mankind. The book can serve as an ideal book for Da'wah purposes.

Name of Book: Tabligh Movement

Author: Ml. Wahiduddin Khan

Publisher: Maktabah Al-Risalah

Edition: 1986

Number of Pages: 68

The Tabligh Jamaat, as it is popularly known, is probably the most active in the field of Da’wah. Unlike other organizations or movements, it runs without a formal constitution except with strict principles and guidelines (given by the elders) that govern the da’wah activities of the Tabligh Jamaat.

This short and concise introduction to the movement begins with the early days of Moulana Ilyas Saheb [RA] through to the efforts of Moulana Muhammad Yusuf Saheb [Hazratjee] and the well-known Tablighi Markaz, Nizamuddin. The author has cited many incidents in the life of both personalities, which is greatly inspirational and thought provoking. Having read through the book, one would have wondered why the author had not added on to the number of pages.
