‘Feed the Needy’ outreach at Isipingo

The ‘Feed the Needy’ outreach of Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre provides hot-packed meals to groups of indigent and destitute individuals in both urban and suburban areas.

On Saturday 16 February 2019 the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre’s Outreach Team, together with volunteers, served 1000 hot-packed meals to residents at three different localities in Isipingo.

The Transit Camp along the main road to Lotus Park was the Outreach Team’s first stop. The Team and volunteers were welcomed by Zandile Khuzwayo and Terence Pillay who expressed their most sincere gratitude for providing the meals to all residents of the Camp. A total of 435 hot-packed meals, with canned food and crisps were distributed.

Thereafter, the team proceeded to a site along the main Malagazi Road where they were met and welcomed by the local community worker Reshika and others who, in conjunction with the team and volunteers, coordinated the distribution of 362 hot-packed meals, canned food and crisps.

The last call for the day was at the Pilgrim Informal Settlement where the team was welcomed by Ms Sylvia Mdletshe and Themba Mtshali – coordinators of the settlement. 363 hot-packed meals and canned food were distributed to all residents at the Settlement.

Many at all three sites approached the team members and volunteers and expressed their heartfelt sentiments for the meals with requests for them to be remembered in future outreaches.

Representatives of our donors accompanied the Outreach Team and had an ‘on the ground’ experience of the plight of people in the areas of distribution.

We thank all our donors and sponsors for their unwavering support in making these outreaches possible. To get involved, contribute and support these initiatives please contact 072 206 5459.
