On the evening of Sunday, 22 September 2019 sixty shacks were razed to the ground after a fire incident occurred at the Quarry Road West informal settlement in Durban.
Over 120 children and adults were affected by the disaster. Fortunately, there were no fatalities nor any injuries.
Late on Monday afternoon Ethekwini Disaster Management official Mr Themba Mdalose - after assessing the situation - contacted the Relief Team of Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre with an urgent request for food provisions and blankets for those affected by the fire incident.
On Tuesday morning the Relief Team of the Centre - together with community volunteers - delivered over 240 hot-packed meals and snacks for lunch and supper for the residents at the settlement.
Additionally, 121 blankets were also handed to all who were displaced.
Mr Themba Mdalose, informal settlement community member Ms Myaemeka Ngubelanga and residents of the settlement thanked the Relief Team for its quick response and the much needed provisions.
The Relief Team further committed to provide lunch and supper and clothing for the residents on Wednesday 25 September 2019.
