Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre responded to a disaster where at least 120 residents at the Blackburn informal settlement in Durban (Ward 35) were affected by a fire incident on Saturday, 28 September 2019.
Over 100 dwellings were razed to the ground – fortunately there were no injuries nor any fatalities.
Late on Saturday night Mr Zamani Mtshali, an official of eThekwini Disaster Management - after assessing the immediate requirements for the affected residents - contacted the Head of the Relief Team of Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre with a request for blankets. On Sunday morning the Relief Team of Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre – in coordination with eThekwini Disaster Management official Mr Themba Mdalose - delivered and distributed over 120 blankets to the affected residents.
Mr Mtshali and many residents expressed their sincere appreciation to the Relief Team for the blankets. The Relief Team of Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre is on ’24 Hour’ call to assist eThekwini Disaster Management for any emergency situation that may arise in Durban and surrounding areas.
