New ‘ID Smart Cards’ to roll out in July
Green, bar-coded identity books will be replaced with identity smart cards from July, Home Affairs Minister Naledi Pandor said on Thursday.
Haj e-system on track
The Ministry of Haj has completed its e-government system, called Yusr, allowing visitors to complete certain transactions online. Yusr will restructure all of the ministry’s work and link it electronically with the other ministries, government sectors, companies and establishments working in Haj and Umrah affairs. The ministry has also trained staff to facilitate the new system.

The National Muslim Prison Board (NMPB), the official organization recognized by the Department of Correctional Services representing all Muslim offenders in prisons across South Africa, has revealed that many prisoners are reverting to Islam.
US raps global rise in anti-Muslim sentiment
A US State Department report yesterday denounced a spike in anti-Islamic sentiment in Europe and Asia, pointing to restrictions and violence against Muslims. The State Department report, which covered 2012, said that “Anti-Muslim rhetoric and actions were clearly on the rise — particularly in Europe and Asia.”
Saudi Arabia recruits 2,323 foreign doctors
Saudi Arabia has hired 2,323 doctors from seven countries to ensure health care services across the Kingdom, a senior official from the Ministry of Health announced yesterday.
