Commissions were expected to provide a report-back based on the discussions around the party's policies on Wednesday.
National executive member Jeff Radebe said on Wednesday that the 11 commissions would finish the debates on the documents on strategy and tactics, organisational renewal and the "second transition" by 17:00.
On Wednesday evening, sectoral policy commissions discussed the 11 discussion documents. These papers outlined proposals for social transformation, state intervention in the minerals sector, economic transformation and gender.
Also on the agenda were papers on peace and stability, education and health, communications, legislature and governance, international relations and land reform.
The report-back on these was also expected on Thursday.
Congress of SA Trade Unions president Sidumo Dlamini said on Wednesday that the commissions were steering clear of the leadership succession debate.
