Who are the Asharah Mubasharah

Q: Who are the Asharah Mubasharah and what is the basis for this name?

A: Asharah Mubasharah

The Ten Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) who were granted the glad tidings of Jannah in this world at one time

Hazrat Abdur Rahman ibn Auf (Radiyalahu Anhu) narrates that Nabi (ﷺ) said, “Abu Bakr (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah, Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah, Uthman (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah, Ali (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah, Talha (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah, Zubair (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah, Abdur Rahman ibn Auf is in Jannah, Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah, Sa’eed ibn Zayd (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah and Abu Ubaidah ibnul Jarrah (Radiyallahu Anhu) is in Jannah. (Tirmizi #3747, Mishkat Vol.2 Pg.566 #6118)

This Hadith has earned this group of Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) the title of Asharah Mubasharah. There were other Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) who given the glad tidings of Jannah but these Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) were given these glad-tidings in one sitting. This also shows that the remainder of these ten were the most eminent of the Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) after the Khulafah Rashideen.
