The President of South Africa called for a 21 day nationwide lockdown on 23 March 2020. The lockdown comes into effect at midnight on Thursday, 26 March 2020 until 16 April 2020.

Based on Government directives, as well as the advice of expert Muslim medical practitioners, large gatherings are to be avoided due to the strong possibility of the rapid spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The World Health Organisation has declared that the new coronavirus outbreak is a global health emergency, acknowledging that the disease represents a risk outside of China, where it emerged last month.
