Welfare Department

The Welfare Department deals with the basic needs of the poor and indigent, the unemployed, their families and deserving people.

Assistance is rendered on a permanent, casual and emergency basis to those who are old, disabled, sick, widowed, divorced, etc.

A stringent screening process is adopted for those seeking assistance and daily consultations are done by Ulama who ably man this department. Home visits are undertaken by a dedicated 'inspector' to ascertain the eligibility of applicants.

There are 46 localities in Durban and surrounding areas, where the Welfare Department renders assistance in the form of payment of rent, electricity, water, transport, clothing, school fees, school uniforms, stationery, medication, medical treatment, etc. Over 1580 cases are officially recorded on file with 250 permanent cases that receive a fixed amount of assistance every month.
