The R240 million project was officially handed over on Tuesday this week by the KZN Public Works Department, and seeks to improve specialised mental healthcare. The construction will also create 230 job opportunities.

According to Meyer, statistics show that 80% of the population in KZN live with depression and mental health issues without proper access to the specialised help they need.

MEC Martin Meyer stated, “This hospital will stand not only as a monument to quality healthcare in this district, but as a monument to the momentous step forward the KZN Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has taken.”
