'Feed the Needy' provides food relief at informal settlements

Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre - through its ‘Feed the Needy’ initiative - provided meals for residents at three informal settlements over the weekend.

On Saturday 18 May 2019 the Relief Team - together with volunteers – delivered hot-packed meals to 460 women, children and men residing at the Rainbow Ridge informal settlement in Clare Estate, Durban. Volunteers also provided and distributed fruit, cupcakes, ice lollies and crisps – which brought much excitement to the children.

On Sunday 19 May the Relief Team and volunteers – together with three families who also volunteered for community assistance – visited the Banana City informal settlement situated on the border of UKZN Westville campus and the Palmiet Road Informal Settlement in Clare Estate.

Some 420 hot-packed meals were distributed to the residents of both settlements - including soft drinks, sweets and crisps.

Ms Thembi Duze, a representative of Banana City Informal settlement and Ms Thuli Masondo of the Palmiet Informal Settlement thanked all for providing the food relief.

Our most humble thanks to our volunteers who assist the Relief Team in their tasks and also contribute towards feeding provisions. These outreaches are made possible through the generous contributions and ongoing support of the Muslim community.
