As per protocol, the Sobonakhona Traditional Council (local traditional council), has given permission to the Ekuphileni Care Foundation (ECF) - an NGO wanting to educate and empower the community to use the premises for the benefit of the greater Illovo community.
An Ekuphileni Care Foundation trustee, Brother Musa Radebe, a community member known to Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre requested support of Darul Ihsan to revive the facility which was in a state of dilapidation. Darul Ihsan took the initiative to develop and refurbish the Centre - repairs and refurbishment of the Centre took five months an entailed a complete overhaul of electrical and plumbing installations. A borehole was installed at the site.
At the official opening of the Centre on Saturday, July 13 2019 the local Induna, respective representatives as well as the Acting Mayor of Durban, Fawzia Peer, graced the opening. The ECF spokesperson highlighted the future plans of the Centre, inter alia, a clinic, general counselling services, skills development and training, primary education, etc.
