The life of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is a universal example for humanity with the best example of good character and noble conduct. The noble Qur'an heralds the character of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as USWATUN HASANAH – THE MOST SUBLIME EXAMPLE.
Islam impresses on Muslims to uphold good behaviour at all times. The unique nature of Islamic character is that it permeates all spheres of human behaviour. Good behaviour is a powerful form of Da'wah as it attracts people to the noble teachings of Islam through the practical expression of its adherents.
Muslims must be guarded about their behaviour in public places, airports, holiday resorts, malls, restaurants, on the road and at functions. These are areas where our behaviour comes under scrutiny by the public. Unfortunately, when our behaviour is contrary to the Sunnah then it creates resentment in the hearts of people for Islam. This is a great disservice to our beautiful Deen of Islam.
To be rowdy, cause a nuisance, disrespect others, shout, scream and use vulgar language is un-Islamic. Nabi r was not vulgar nor obscene. Nabi r said, “The believer does not insult others, does not curse others, is not vulgar, and is not shameless.” (Tirmizi)
Anas ibn Malik reported that Nabi r would not abuse others, he would not use obscene words, and he would not curse others. (Bukhari)
Furthermore, Muslims are duty-bound to help people in their time of need, to forgive others easily, serve and respect their parents and elders, keep promises, be kind to people and animals, adopt patience in adversity, maintain justice, be honest, and control anger.
Nabi r said, “Verily, the most complete of believers in faith are those with the best character and who are most kind to their families.”
(Tirmizi)
May Allah Ta'ala grant us the guidance and understanding to reform our character and always strive to become better Muslims.
