According to the TNPA’s published application, the group intends to “expand the Durban port and position it as a premier container hub port in the region”, increasing TEU capacity between 10-11 million. The reclaimed land will include a new quay wall, accommodating ultra-large container ships, additional harbour cranes, stacking containers, and land and water availability for future expansion projects.
This project is in line with the broader KZN Ports Master Plan, which aims to establish Durban as a Container Hub Port, attracting international container traffic which will benefit the country and surrounding nations.
