The manner in which Yusuf (AS) dealt with those trials and injustices is an excellent example for us to follow in contemprory times. He (AS) braced each trial with beautiful patience and complained only to Allah Ta’ala. We learn from this example to register our pain only to Allah Ta’ala. Yusuf (AS) did not retaliate or seek revenge, He only complained to Allah. In the end, Yusuf (AS) forgave his brothers even though he had the chance to avenge their actions.
With the challenges around us today, we should also endeavour to fear Allah Ta’ala with regards to breaking family ties. Be patient and persevere upon trying to create peace and goodness. Rise above our ego, anger, jealousy and all other reasons that could lead us to break family ties. Severing ties with family is detrimental to us in this world and on the Day of Qiyamah. No matter how indifferent your family member is to you, try to reconcile and be the better person.
Our path is the path of reconciliation, maintaining and strengthening family ties. This is the path of the Prophets (AS). Let us strive ensure that feelings of animosity do not grow between us. Do not allow shaytan to make us inflate our egos, make us stubborn, resentful, and make us hold grudges against one another and prefer separation and division over unity.
Let us choose unity for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.
