Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (Radiyallahu Anhu) said, “By Allah, besides Whom there is no other deity, there is no revealed Surah of the book of Allah regarding which I do not know where it was revealed, and there is no revealed verse of the book of Allah regarding which I do not know why it was revealed. If I were to know of anybody more knowledgeable than me regarding the book of Allah who could be reached by camel, I would ride to him.” (Bukhari)
Before the Khilafah of Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu), people used to recite Taraweeh Salah, individually or in small groups. When Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) became the Khalifah, he decided to gather all the Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum) in one congregation for Taraweeh Salah and appointed Hazrat Ubay bin Ka’b (Radiyallahu Anhu) as the Imam. (Bukhari)
Hazrat Anas (Radiyallahu Anhu) narrates, “Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to Hazrat Ubay bin Ka’b (Radiyallahu Anhu), ‘Allah commanded me to recite the Quran to you.’ Hazrat Ubay bin Ka’b (Radiyallahu Anhu) asked, ‘Did Allah mention me by name?’ Nabi (ﷺ) replied, ‘Yes.’ Hazrat Ubay bin Ka’b (Radiyallahu Anhu) then asked, ‘Have I been mentioned by the Rabb of the worlds?’ Nabi (ﷺ) replied, ‘Yes.’ Upon this, tears flowed from the eyes of Hazrat Ubay bin Ka’b (Radiyallahu Anhu).” (Bukhari)
