Mother’s name: Umm Usaid bint Sakan
Hazrat Usaid (R) accepted Islam on the hands of Hazrat Mus'ab bin Umair t in Madinah Munawwarah. He was present at the second pledge of Aqabah and was appointed as the Naqeeb (leader) for Banu Abdil Ashhal. He participated in the battle of Uhud and all the subsequent battles with Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Hazrat Ka'b bin Malik (R), Hazrat Abu Sa'eed Khudri (R), Hazrat Anas bin Malik t and Hazrat Ayesha (Radiyallahu Anha) all narrate Ahadith from him. He would recite Qur'an in a very beautiful voice.
VIRTUES
Hazrat Anas t narrates that once Hazrat Usaid bin Hudair (R) and Hazrat Abbad bin Bishr (R) were by Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) on a dark night. When they departed, the staff of one of them became illuminated and they both were walking with that light. When they separated then the staff of both of them became illuminated. (Musnad Ahmad)
Hazrat Abu Hurairah t narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “…What an excellent man is Usaid bin Hudair (R) …” (Tirmizi, Musnad Ahmad)
