Relationship to Rasulullah r: Rasulullah's (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) father's twin sister, Baydha, Ummi Hakeem's bint Abdul Muttalib daughter was his mother.
Title: Zun-Noorayn “Owner of Two Lights”. Two of Rasulullah's (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) daughters were given to him in marriage, Hazrat Ruqayyah and Hazrat Umm Kulsoom (RA) when one passed away the other's hand was given to him in marriage by Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Hazrat Uthman (R) was martyred on a Friday, 18 Zil Hijjah 35 A.H. in Madinah Munawwarah. He was reciting the Quran Kareem upon which the first drops of his blood fell. He was also fasting when he was mercilessly martyred. He was 82 years old at that time.
On his unparalleled generosity on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk where he contributed 600 camels with their saddles and 1000 dinars (gold coins), Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “If after today Uthman (also mistakenly) happens to do some wrong, then it will not harm him and he will not be accountable.” (Tirmizi)
Hazrat Uthman (R) was not present at time when Bay'ah of Jihad was taken at Hudaybiyah because Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) had sent him to Makkah Mukarramah as a negotiator. At the time of the Bay'ah Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) placed one Mubarak hand over the other and said, “This is on behalf of Uthman.” Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (R) says, “The hand of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) for Uthman was better than the hands of the Sahabah y for themselves.” (Tirmizi)
