Out of the country’s nine provinces, six of them are completely without risk of load reduction. Progress, however, is still being made in provinces such as the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, and KwaZulu-Natal to remove load reduction entirely.

By October 2026, Eskom plans to stop load reduction in a seventh province. Nationwide eradication of it is aimed for 2027.
