Earlier this week in Pretoria, Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa commented, “Over a period stretching back to 2007, electricity tariffs have increased by about 977%. A number of things have changed since that period, and that is a trigger as to why we are presenting this set of proposals before you.”

New changes are expected to include a ten-year price forecast required from NERSA of the Electricity Pricing Policy, opening the market to competition, strengthening social protection, providing free basic electricity to indigent households, and support for energy-intensive industries.
