Q:I understand that one should be in the state of wudhu when touching the Qur’an. However, does one also have to be in wudu to recite the Qur’an e.g. from memory, or if one has downloaded the Qur’an on their mobile phone or computer?
Also, what is the ruling regarding other Qur’anic literature such as a book of selected Surahs, a book of a single chapter of the Qur’an, a book containing the (non-Arabic) translation of the entire Qur’an, etc.?
A: It is not necessary to have Wudhu when reciting the Qur’an from memory or from the mobile phone or computer, although it is preferred. However, it is necessary to have Wudhu when touching Qur’anic text, literature such as a book of selected Surahs or one chapter of the Qur’an. Translations of the Qur’an have the same ruling.
