Hazrat Jabir ibn Sulaym (RA) then mentioned that “ I was not vulgar towards anyone thereafter, be it a free person or a slave, a camel or a sheep.” (Abu Dawood, Tirmizi)

In one part of a Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has mentioned, “Being vulgar towards a Muslim is sinful…” (Bukhari, Muslim)

Unfortunately, swearing, vulgar language and obscene speech has become common amongst Muslims. To break the heart of believer with hurtful words and vile speech is detrimental to one's Iman and will render one accountable in the court of Allah Ta'ala.

Harsh words, irresponsible remarks and poor conduct have created a negative image of Islam and Muslims. Such behaviour discourages people from Islam and reinforces stereotypes that Muslims are ill-mannered, inconsiderate and militant. In keeping with the Sunnah, a Muslim should be soft spoken, compassionate and forgiving. Adoption of good character is a sign of perfect.
